The choir “flourishes in the incomparable sound of many voices unified in tone and spirit, blooming in the radiant phrases of Brahms, soaring on warmth of feeling, perfectly tendered… In pitch, blend, range, balance and variety of sonority, this choral instrument is excellent.”…Robert Commanday, San Francisco Chronicle
Spring 2014 Concerts!
Made in North America: Music from Mexico, Canada, and the United States
April 12-13, 2014
Under the direction of SFBACC Music Director Anthony Pasqua, our Spring 2014 concerts will feature a rich variety of a cappella music of the Americas.
Our music from Mexico includes a Latin motet by Juan de Lienas, a “New World” composer (1617-1654), and a new piece (composed in 2012) by Jorge Cozatl. Selections from Canada include works by Stephen Chatman and Kristopher Fulton. American music includes selections by William Billings, Stephen Foster, and William Schuman. Folk song arrangements of the Americas will round out the program.
On Saturday, April 12 at 8PM, we will perform at St Mark’s Episcopal Church in Berkeley.
On Sunday, April 13 at 7PM, we will perform at Old Mission San Jose in Fremont.
Tickets may be purchased online after February 15, or they may be purchased from choir members or at the door. See our concerts page for more information!
Auditions
We are always on the lookout for talented and enthusiastic singers in all voice parts. Prospective singers should have extensive choral experience, excellent reading and musicianship skills, and should be dedicated to the art of choral singing.
If you are interested in auditioning, please contact us by sending an e-mail to auditions@sfbaychoir.org.
When you write, please let us know what part you sing and provide a brief summary of your singing experience.
The choir usually rehearses on Sunday evenings from 6-9 at Faith Lutheran Church in Castro Valley, CA, with at least one longer rehearsal scheduled each season for a Sunday afternoon and evening about a month before our scheduled concerts.
SFBACC Travels
SFBACC has traveled extensively since its founding in 1978. Our latest journey took us to Turkey in the summer of 2010 for a very rewarding 2-week concert tour.
This was the choir’s 12th overseas tour since our 1979 visit to Lucerne, Switzerland to participate in the Europa Cantat festival.
In addition to our own visits to other countries over the years, we have also hosted several European choirs here in the Bay Area, including the Nicolai Chamber Choir from Stockholm, Sweden; the Westphalian Chamber Choir from Münster, Germany; the Malmö Chamber Choir from Malmö, Sweden; the Charles University Choir from Prague; and the Camerata Vocale Hannover.
Visit our tours page for more information about our past trips.
