Friends, Acquaintances, Colleagues

Jane Sandsmark, my dear wife and traveling partner, has an entertaining website of her own, showcasing her artwork.

Kirk van DrutenLANSharks Consulting -- the best Mac and network guy around.

Patricia Jennerjohn, financial planner, Focused Finances -- knowledgeable, helpful, smart, friendly, honest; everything you want someone who handles your money to be.

Kate Jordahl and Geir Jordahl, JordahlPhoto -- fine art photographers, fine teachers, fine people. They maintain a beautiful website showcasing their work. We are proud to own one of Kate's photographs, of the Cliff House in San Francisco. (Follow the "Galleries" link.)

Cary Nasatir, Nasatir School of Percussion  -- get drumming!

Bonnie Azab Powell, writer -- the genius behind the Red Herring April Fool's stories, among many other things.

Terry VanderHeiden
ImageLight Photography -- great photographer, Photoshop expert, supposedly good golfer. Ask him about working for the National Enquirer.

Dale Bridges  is my cousin. His motto is "Let's Do Business" and he means it.

Pawling & Associates, writers. - Pat Pawling is a fellow contributor to iQ magazine.

Vicki Powers, writer. - A fellow contributor to iQ magazine.

My Esteemed Clients and Employers

iQ Magazine (Cisco Systems)

Oracle magazine. -

Sunset Custom Publishing. - Publishers of Acura Style magazine, the California State Visitors' Guide, Mazda Zoom-Zoom, and many other company publications. Coincidentally, they also handle production for Cisco's iQ Magazine.

PROFIT magazine. - Published by Oracle Corporation, this magazine covers the business applications side of Oracle's business.

Cal Performances. - One of the premier performing arts organizations in the Bay Area, currently marking its Centennial Season.

Weldon Owen. - The publishers of How to Buy and Sell (Just About) Everything and How to Plan and Organize (Just About) Everything. I worked on both books.

Organizations

San Francisco Bay Area Chamber Choir - I've sung with this group since 1981. We sing in April and November every year. Come hear us!

National Brain Tumor Foundation - an organization that has proved very helpful to Jane and me.

California State University, Hayward -- our local University, from which practically everyone in our family has graduated. Some of us just can't bring ourselves to say Cal State East Bay.

Golden Gate Men's Chorus -- a fine men's chorus based in San Francisco. Some of my college friends sing with the group, which is directed by Joseph Jennings.

White Lotus Foundation -- a wonderful yoga center on the San Marcos pass above Santa Barbara.

Real-World Places Worth Visiting

Chabot Cinema, Castro Valley  - our local single-screen movie palace. (Read about the proprietors, CineLux Theatres, in Cisco's iQ Magazine.)

A&G Music, Oakland  - I bought Connie, AKA The Beast, my beloved bari sax, here!

Fenton's Creamery  - the classic ice cream parlor, open again after a prolonged closure.

Grand Lake Theater, Oakland  - the best place to see a movie, especially in Theater 1 on Friday or Saturday night.

Java Bob's  -- dog-friendly coffee place in Castro Valley. Look for Delta's picture by the cash register!

Places and Organizations That Don't Have Websites (But Should)

So I'm making them, as time permits.

Le Paradis & La Patisserie, Hayward

Rudy's Donut House, Castro Valley

 Zza's Trattoria, Oakland

 The Book Shop, Hayward

 Castro Valley Community Band

 Castro Village Toy Shop

News

Yahoo News Most Popular - I'm fascinated with this page, which shows both the most popular articles and photos. Sometimes it's a bunch of juvenile stuff (think Britney in shorts), sometimes it's wacky pictures of animals (especially baby animals). But other times, I find stories I wouldn't otherwise find.

Google News - "The selection and placement of stories on this page were determined automatically by a computer program" is what it says at the bottom of the page. It used to joke that "No editors were harmed in the assembling of this page."

New York Times Most Emailed (registration required) - Similar to the Yahoo page, it shows what many other people think is important. A little more serious than Yahoo.

The Onion - a little less serious than Yahoo News.

San Leandro Times - a local weekly paper. My sister Linda is a reporter for the Times; look for her articles!

Romenesko. - The place for media gossip and information.

Fun Stuff

SF Bay Area Weather Radar.  - When storms move into Northern California, this is the place to watch them in real time.

The Internet Movie Database. - The best place to look up any movie information.

Rotten Tomatoes. - A fun place to see the consensus of movie critics.

Craigslist. - The fabled online community, started in San Francisco. Forums are a great place to ask questions and crack jokes. Classifieds are good places to find free stuff or get rid of stuff you don't want.

Khaaaaan! William Shatner's greatest scream.
