I love technology. I love technology. I love technology.

If I say it often enough, I might actually believe it. Yeah, right.

The current problem is of my own making: through broken and lax backup procedures, coupled with inattentiveness during a critical recovery procedure, I've lost the last five months of my digital life. I haven't done much professional work in that time (and final drafts are routinely archived using a gmail account), but the loss includes all email since the end of January. I haven't kept a diary during Jane's hospice journey, but had faithfully kept copies of all inbound and outbound emails. Now that's all lost.

In a way, it's kind of liberating. Now I'll never have to contemplate that unread archive of sadness, loss, and frustration. I can just let it go, and live with what's in my head and heart. As my friend Peter said when I told him of my plight, "You end up remembering what is most important to you." The rest is just stuff, unnecessary details, baggage. Right?

Still, if you read this and have significant notes from or to me from February through June 2007 (inclusive), feel free to forward them to me. Thanks.

P.S. One clarification: the lost email is only from the "fred (at) marblepub.com" address, not from "fredsandsmark (at) gmail.com." Thanks to Cousin Jim for bringing this to my attention.
